MEET PROTEC ALUMNI
Alumni Highlight - Aaron Lopez“I graduated from PROTEC in 2017. We learned a little bit of everything, from creating a presence of yourself to building a résumé, filming aspects as well as social media aspects. Knowing what I learned at PROTEC, I went ahead and made a film about PTSD. At the time, I was suffering from PTSD not because of being in the military but because of things that had happened in my life. I’ve graduated with my associate degree in film and digital media arts and a bachelor’s degrees in integrated studies (Northern NM College) with an emphasis on anthropology and film.”
Aaron was recently hired as the Public Relations Coordinator for the Office of Communications of the Indian Affairs Department. |
Alumni Highlight - Kira Jones“This past Spring (2021), I was fortunate to be a part of the PROTEC Film and Television PA bootcamp–a truly life changing experience!
Born and raised in New Mexico, I have wanted to find my place within the booming film industry here for many years now, but have been raising a child on my own. I applied for the PROTEC bootcamp, and before the semester was even over, I had a full-time job on a SHOWTIME television series, and am now preparing to start my third film job in the course of a mere six months. Additionally–and unlike any other film training or degree that I know of–safety training was an absolute priority, and each of us came out of the bootcamp OSHA certified. Not only do I have a film resumé I am proud to send out, but I walked on set my very first day knowing how to use a walkie talkie! I have had many years of higher education and professional experience, and I can honestly say that I have never felt more prepared to enter into a job. This program is hands-on, engaged learning and workforce/economic development at its finest, and I hope it continues for years to come.” Kira has recently been promoted to Producer’s Assistant on the Untitled Dust Bowl Project, shooting in Santa Fe County. |
Alumni Highlight - Tricia Ware"Job-hunting can be a lonely, discouraging experience--especially if you're changing careers in an ever-evolving job market. PROTEC allowed me to connect with fellow job seekers in an empathic way that created a support system for all of us. The technical credentials made everyone's resume look more relevant, and the internship experience allowed me to try out potential jobs in the area in an exploratory way."
